They were produced in a variety of sizes and poses, including sitting, crawling, lying down, and sleeping and were a Victorian era fad. They were available in sizes from 4 inches to 18 inches tall. Since pianos were the focal point in Victorian parlors, the whimsical bisque babies were designed to sit on top of the ubiquitous pianos to anchor piano scarves. They were very popular until the early 20th century.
