For fry! Freshwater Aqua Use Nucleus-Free Pearls Water Quality Improvement pH Control Bottom Gravel Trial 44cm worth
These are genuine, undyed, natural freshwater pearls (un nucleated baroque, double-drilled).
To make them easy to use, especially for smaller tanks, we've divided them into approximately 44cm (2 strands) lots, making them easy to use up.
Since this is a decorative material, I personally place them in a small glass container and sink it directly into the aquarium.
?? [Regarding Livestock and Water Quality Management]
The main component of freshwater pearls is ultra-high purity calcium carbonate.
They gently auto-control the aquarium water, which tends to become acidic, towards a slightly alkaline mineral water quality (around pH 7.5) that fry and shrimp prefer.
(They are not compatible with adsorptive soil, nutrient-rich soil, or peat moss-based soils that tend to maintain acidity.)
The effect is similar to oyster shells or coral sand, but since they are stones that grow in freshwater, there is no worry about salt removal and it's easy to resolve layout inconsistencies.
Also, due to their smooth, gem-like texture, they will not damage betta fins or the delicate bodies of fry upon contact.
As they release alkaline substances and calcium, start by adding a very small amount and gradually increase the quantity while monitoring the pH levels and the condition of your aquatic life.
Although thoroughly washed, please acclimate them to your aquarium environment before adding them.
Since they are bead-type with double holes, an increase in bacterial colonization speed can be expected.
Before placing them in the aquarium, you can create fine scratches on the surface of the pearls with a file to increase the surface area. However, the nacre layers have a tendency to chip off sharply when broken (the layers of crystals peel off like glass shards).
To avoid accidental ingestion by aquatic life (risk of damaging the stomach lining or internal organs), we do not recommend using them after powdering or crushing.
*In the case of cultured freshwater pearls, a nucleus made from Mississippi mussels may be included. The nucleus is also calcium carbonate and does not affect water quality, but there is a risk of aquatic life ingesting it, so please replace them before the pearls are completely depleted.
*Caution! Akoya pearls are saltwater nucleated pearls.
Generally, the large and beautiful pearls referred to as pearls are saltwater nucleated pearls.
Saltwater pearls are extremely weak to moisture and acids, have thin nacre layers, and their composition is based on saltwater. They are not suitable for freshwater aquarium layouts.
