Refurbished ONKYO FR-UN7 Main Unit Only + Simple Remote Included

This is a listing for the Onkyo FR-UN7, a 1BOX SACD-compatible system. The main unit is included, along with a simple remote control for tuning. There are signs of wear and tear consistent with its age, with a noticeable scratch on the right side.

The main focus of the maintenance was the DVD drive's control board. All SMD electrolytic capacitors were replaced with new ones, maintaining the same voltage rating but increasing the capacitance. This upgrade is particularly effective in winter when electrolytic capacitors' performance degrades. This part was serviced and tested in colder months (January-February) and confirmed to be working. Additionally, the large-capacity electrolytic capacitor supplying power to this drive has been replaced with a new one. Several capacitors on this circuit and those related to the FL tube display have also been replaced, with the power supply board being refurbished.

A used, good-condition DVD drive pickup has been installed. It operates well and reads SACD hybrids without issue, which is often a point of failure. The MD drive's electrolytic capacitors have also been replaced with higher-quality ones, ensuring good operation. This drive supports MDLP. The speaker relays have been replaced with new, compatible audio-grade parts. Several tactile switches on the unit that were becoming less responsive have been replaced with good-condition parts salvaged from another UN7 unit.

Even when used solely for listening to CDs, the sound quality is generally superior to similarly priced CD-only players from the same era. The FR series, which features multi-type CD drives, is limited to only two models: the UN and the GXDV (the X7DV has the same internal components). In terms of CD sound quality, I believe these are among the best in the entire FR series.

The simple remote control has six buttons in total: Power ON/OFF, followed by two tuning buttons. These buttons also function as fast forward and rewind for MD/CD, which is useful for splitting tracks on MDs. Next are Repeat and Random, and the bottom button switches Super Bass.

I have been using this unit with the power on continuously for about a month, and both drives are performing well. However, as this is an older product, there may be other issues that have not yet become apparent. If any problems arise after you start using it, I am open to discussing further maintenance or repairs.
